I had my first shoot with the wonderful Alex last week, at her house in deepest Hampshire. Usually when I head out for a shoot I like to have everything planned out, a good idea of the shots I’m … Continue reading
A new studio
A couple of good people that I am getting to know have just finished putting together a new photographic studio in Basingstoke. This is a completely ‘for hire’ resource and is not attached to any specific photographer or company, and so I commend you go use it and see what they have.
It’s located right near the main entrance to the hospital if you know the area, and so it’s really easy to get to. They have a full white infinite cove background, some carpets, a few props such as a sofa and some chairs, several decent flash heads, and pretty good facilities.

I’m going to be shooting there in a couple of weeks, so I’ll let you know how that goes and post some of the pictures up here. Incidentally, I’m not connected to them in any way, but I wish there were more studios out there like this and want to see them succeed. Use ‘em or lose ‘em.
Looking for… construction locations
Something I never had any success finding is a location that either is or looks like an active construction site. Part of the problem is that here in the UK we are so tied up in health and safety regulations that if you do much as open a can of paint the whole site becomes off-limits to everyone. Because of this the larger project-managed sites are probably inaccessible, but smaller private ones may turn up from time to time.
What I’m looking for is a construction site where I can shoot a series of incongruous nudes. They would appear to be working there in some capacity – brickies, chippies, sparks, etc.
Incidentally I am more than familiar with building site safety and am CSSC registered. I’m also fully insured.
Let me know if you have or know of anything suitable.
Thanks.
